We are pleased to announce the completion and publication of the “Catalogue of Results” for the ForestValue Joint Call 2017—a landmark in European forest-based research collaboration. This catalogue showcases the outcomes of 17 transnational research projects that have been successfully implemented with funding support from national and regional programmes and the European Union.

Background: A Major Step in Forest-Based Innovation

The Joint Call 2017 was the first transnational call for proposals under the ForestValue ERA-NET Cofund initiative. With a strong financial commitment from 30 participating national and regional research programmes alongside EU co-funding, the aim was ambitious yet clear: to advance innovation and sustainability in the forest-based sector.

The overarching goal of the call was to support the development and proof of concept of novel strategies, methods, processes, and products. These innovations are designed to ensure the forestry and forest-based industries—including partners, resellers, consumers, and end-users—remain competitive, resilient, and efficient providers of sustainable bio-based products and services.

A Rigorous Evaluation and Selection Process

The call was launched on 17 October 2017, and received a remarkable response with 102 eligible pre-proposals submitted by the 23 January 2018 deadline. Following a rigorous two-stage peer review process carried out by panels of international experts:

  • 50 consortia were invited to submit full proposals.
  • 17 outstanding projects were ultimately selected for funding, in line with national/regional funding availability and EU co-funding guidelines.

Each project was eligible for funding for up to three years, with the implementation monitored and evaluated under national and transnational procedures.

Discover the Results

The newly released Catalogue of Results offers a comprehensive overview of the funded projects, their objectives, methodologies, progress, and outcomes. This document serves not only as a record of achievements but also as a valuable source of inspiration and reference for researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders committed to a sustainable forest-based bioeconomy.
