In 2024, ForestValue2, a European network dedicated to advancing the forest-based bioeconomy, marked significant milestones in research coordination and innovation. Here are 2024 highlights:

  • Anniversary Event in Berlin

From October 1–2, 2024, ForestValue2 hosted a two-day anniversary conference at the W3.Hub in Berlin, celebrating two decades of progress from WoodWisdom-Net to ForestValue. The event featured presentations from European research projects, industry leaders, policymakers, and interactive group sessions aimed at supporting new collaborations.

  • Joint Call 2023

Building on its commitment to sustainable forest management and innovation, ForestValue2 launched the Joint Call 2023, inviting transnational proposals for research, development, and innovation in the forest-based sector. As a result of this call, four projects have been funded and are currently in their initial implementation phase. These projects aim to tackle critical issues such as climate-resilient forestry, biodiversity preservation, and sustainable wood-based value chains. The progress of these initiatives will be closely monitored, with the potential to deliver impactful solutions that benefit the forest-based bioeconomy across Europe.

  • Scientific Cafés

This engaging events are focused on enhancing biodiversity in forests, offering a platform to discuss sustainable forest management practices and conservation efforts. Scientific Cafés were held in Finland, Italy and Romania throughout 2024. By engaging diverse audiences and addressing specific local contexts, the Scientific Cafés played a pivotal role in advancing sustainable forest management and strengthening ties within the forest-based bioeconomy network.

  • Communication Guidelines

In December 2024, ForestValue2 published “Guidelines for Communication,” providing funded projects with principles and recommendations to effectively disresults. These guidelines aim to amplify the impact of research by engaging diverse audiences, including academia, industry, policymakers, and the general public.

  • Forward New Partnership

In 2024, ForestValue2 actively contributed to the development of the new Horizon Europe Cluster 6 Partnership on Forests and Forestry. As a cornerstone of the European Union’s research and innovation framework, the partnership focuses on promoting collaboration between countries, sectors, and disciplines. ForestValue2’s role in this initiative includes providing expertise, aligning research priorities, and ensuring that innovative solutions are implemented to maximize impact. The partnership is set to support transformative projects that will safeguard forests and enhance their multifunctionality for future generations.
