On November 20, 2025, the National Science Centre, Poland, a ForestValue2 partner, hosted a Scientific Café on the theme “Forest Resilience, Biodiversity, and Ecosystem Services.” The online workshop brought together 11 stakeholders, including representatives from science, forestry administration, NGOs, other EU Partnerships, and the general public.

The Polish Scientific Café aimed to explore practical and strategic approaches to forest protection in the face of climate change, emphasizing a balance between ecological, social, and economic perspectives. Dr. Anna Wierzbicka from Poznań University of Life Sciences presented the topic from multiple angles, setting the stage for in-depth discussion.

Key discussion points included:

  • Climate change impacts on forest resilience
  • Forest management and biodiversity conservation
  • The role of technology in monitoring and planning
  • Education, public awareness, and communication
  • Social engagement and stakeholder cooperation
  • Governance and legal-policy challenges

Based on the insights collected during the Polish Scientific Café, participants identified several priority actions necessary to strengthen forest resilience, biodiversity conservation, and effective governance in the context of climate change

  1. Modernize forestry legislation
  2. Enhance climate adaptation and monitoring
  3. Promote species and structural diversification
  4. Expand economic incentives
  5. Improve communication and public participation
  6. Develop cohesive forest education strategies
  7. Strengthen collaboration between science and practice
  8. Ensure long-term, cross-sector governance

The discussion clearly demonstrated that the challenges facing forests today are multidimensional and require coordinated, long-term approaches that integrate scientific knowledge, practical experience, and societal expectations.
