The “Marin Drăcea” National Institute for Research and Development in Forestry (INCDS) is pleased to announce the results of the application process for the ForestValue2 Summer Training Course “Forest Health and Monitoring in the Age of Remote Sensing” to be held in Brașov, Romania from May 12-16, 2025.

About the Training Course

The summer course, organized by the “Marin Drăcea” National Institute for Research and Development in Forestry with support from Transilvania University of Brașov, will focus on active sensors in forest monitoring. Participants will engage with cutting-edge methods integrating active remote sensing (Earth Observation data, Close Range Terrestrial Laser Scanning, and Aerial Laser Scanning) with in-situ measurements.

Selection Results

INCDS has received 27 eligible applications from early-stage researchers across multiple countries. Following the review process, 20 participants have been selected as follows: 12 researchers from EU13 countries and one participant from Finland supported by INCDS funds / affiliated institution of participant; 2 researchers from the Republic of Moldova; 5 researchers from Ukraine.

Parallel Session Preferences

The distribution of participant preferences for the specialized parallel sessions is as follows: TLS/ALS (Terrestrial/Aerial Laser Scanning): 7 participants; RADAR: 6 participants; LIDAR: 7 participants

Gender distribution – 55% male, 45% female

Course Infrastructure

INCDS will provide all necessary infrastructure for the course, with PC workstations being ensured through the courtesy of Transilvania University of Brașov. Participants will have access to specialized software for remote sensing data analysis and all required training materials.

All applicants have been notified of their status and travel options via email. The participants will soon receive further information regarding: Accommodation details; Travel arrangements, including airport transfers from Otopeni Airport to Brașov and return; Final program schedule
